ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Kim, and I’m the creator of Sapphire’s Stories and Art. My work blends whimsical elements, vibrant colors, playful energy, and abstract forms to explore the intersection of surrealism and childlike storytelling.
I’m deeply fascinated by the innocent, curious mind of a child—how they perceive the world, express emotion, and develop their motor skills. Children have a unique way of imagining and interpreting reality that often fades as we grow older. Through my art, I aim to capture that imaginative freedom and emotional honesty.
Storytelling is at the heart of my work. I want viewers to notice the small details within each piece and feel that every element contributes to a narrative. My goal is to spark positive emotions—such as joy, amusement, and a sense of wonder—through both the visual and narrative aspects of my art.
My inspirations come not only from watching vintage cartoon animations, reading comic strips, webtoons, and Japanese manga, but also from the stories I hear from peers around me. Listening to others share their experiences gives me a chance to let my imagination run wild. I draw on these moments to decide what materials and colors to use, and to shape the visual stories I want to tell—often through expressive characters, vibrant palettes, and organic forms.
While my primary medium is 3D sculpture, I also enjoy creating comic-style drawings. I frequently combine the two, translating ideas between 2D and 3D, much like the interdisciplinary projects we explored in art school. I primarily use found objects, but I also work with paint, pastels, glass, or any materials that best suit the concept of the piece.
In all that I create, my goal is to awaken curiosity, evoke emotion, and spark imagination.
